In reference to the “outsourcing jobs” letter of May 6 by Al Jung (“If we take a stand, jobs might be saved”): Thanks for noticing. Jobs are leaving this country faster than you can blink an eye. Watch out kids, you have no working future. Period. Almost all clothing, electronics, appliances, planes, cars, phone and computer work is now outsourced to countries that pay their employees in a day what we spend on lunch.
In my own field, which is travel, Delta Airlines has outsourced a lot of its reservations services to Bombay. Many others are on the way out too. It is appalling the lack of service and knowledge you get when you get these calls, and anyone with an Intel computer or a video camera who has had the blanket stupid answers to their questions can relate.
I hope that Al Jung does close his account with his bank that outsourced the services there and I hope that others do the same. But we are barking up the wrong tree if we think that will help. It is way too far-gone to just say, “Gosh, I am going to not use that bank.” Are you also not going to eat that food, use that appliance, call that company or wear that clothing? Get real. Massive changes have to occur at the corporate level and in the politics of the White House before this train will stop. Call your elected officials and get the laws changed. “Made in USA” now reads “It WAS made in the USA.”
Better hope that we get used to being unemployed, or go live in that country and work where the cost of living reflects the minuscule paycheck that goes along with it!
