There is an important Snohomish School Board election on Nov. 6. Each voter needs to understand the candidate choice they have for position 5, the ramifications of that choice and the long-term impact each candidate wil have on the district.
I have attended most of the Snohomish School Board meetings and working sessions over the past four and a half years and have observed the members of the board, the administration and the public in action.
The district has a number of critical issues to deal with, including providing the classrooms required for a growing school district, funding for those facilities and creating an educational environment in which our students can excel and prepare for their future. The two candidates for Position 5 are Bill Edgar and Jay Hagen. Bill Edgar is a career military officer currently serving as a commander in the U.S. Coast Guard. He has extensive training in the management and budgeting for large organizations. He can bring a skilled and professional background in management, long range strategic planning and finance to the school board.
Bill Edgar has been an active and positive parent at Totem Falls Elementary. With children in the district, he also understands the issues from a parent’s perspective. He designed and developed the Snohomish School District and Totem Falls Web Sites. Bill Edgar has also been endorsed by the teachers through the Snohomish Education Association.
Please take the time to understand the differences in these two candidates and how they will impact the school board and the educational environment for our children. I would urge you to vote for Bill Edgar. He will lead our school district in a positive direction for the benefit of our children’s education.
