I’m writing you in response to the Jan. 9 guest commentary written by Richard Cooper and Dr. Bill Mac Donald of the Everett Clinic (“Finding a way to bridge Medicare’s funding gap”).
The column was about the high cost of medical care in today’s market and the failure of Congress to act on the 4.4 percent Medicare cut scheduled for 2003.
House Republicans agreed to eliminate the cut late last year, but Democrats (still in control of the Senate in 2002) chose to let it die and went home for the Christmas holidays.
I wonder if the people who believe Democrats are for the “little guy” will remember this come election time. It was a callous disregard for retired persons who rely on Medicare for their health care. It was also the same to all the doctors who are responsible for giving out good medical care and need adequate reimbursement.
I think we need to look again at which party really cares for senior citizens. In my book, it’s not the Democrats!
