Regarding the June 26 letter, “It is not that easy to buy a gun,” which asserts that that “liberals (need to) … wake up and recognize this us not a gun problem but an Islamic radical problem? “
The patently racist viewpoint advocated by the NRA and parroted by the writer isn’t something I’m willing to tolerate. If people of Islamic faith are to blame for the butchery in Orlando and San Bernadino, how then do you explain Blacksburg, Sandy Hook, Roseburg, Columbine, and Colorado Springs (to name a few)? Blaming an entire demographic of our citizenry is comparable to the scapegoating of Jewish people in Germany in the 20th century. It’s unacceptable, it cannot be tolerated, and must be called out every time without exception. It transcends the issue of gun control, in spades.
Racism doesn’t require a permit, a waiting period, or a background check. It does call for instant and vigorous public ridicule, condemnation and humiliation.
