The April 5 letter, “Grocery grazing is, in fact, stealing,” made some good points about how shoplifting might raise the price of goods sold to consumers.
However, the conclusion that was drawn, “we can thank the good old Democrats for making it easier for thieves to steal,” would be quite a humorous stretch, if that type of thinking wasn’t possibly to blame for the political polarization taking place in Congress and our country these days. When generalizations and logical fallacies take the place of rational, fact-based thinking, our society suffers.
While the projected outcomes of the newly passed health care reform bill have yet to be proven by either side of the continuing debate, I thought I might point out some of the programs that the Democrats and liberals are definitely to be “blamed” for:
The minimum air and water quality standards we enjoy, the food and product ingredient identification labels and government subsidized transportation many use practically every day. Better pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.
Also making the list are worker compensation and unemployment benefits, federal bank deposit insurance, student loans, auto safety standards, Medicare and Social Security, to name a few.
As informed, clear-thinking Americans, let’s all do our own investigations and draw our own conclusions instead of listening to those who base their “facts” on emotion, hearsay and generalization.
