I would like to thank the powers that be for keeping the Mukilteo State Park open.
I would like to offer some suggestions that could improve the experience of those who use the park.
Launching and retrieving boats is chaotic. A solution could be to have a sign at both ends of the dock that simply say “In” or “Out.” In the morning until 9 a.m. have three sides launching out and one side coming in. After 9 a.m., have three sides coming in and one launching out.
Also, an unprotected boat launch can be dangerous with boats thrown at the mercy of the waves. Docks should be for boaters and passengers only. Fishing and crabbing from this dock not only increase congestion, they are also dangerous. There is a dock closer to the ferries that would better and could better serve fishermen and crabbers.
People pay to launch their boats only to find the trailer parking is filled with cars. Have clearly marked trailer parking, car parking and an overflow area and enforce them.
Lastly, there are metal bolts and plates that stick out and damage boats. One suggestion would be to cover these items by using old tires. This would be an inexpensive solution and also a way to recycle.
I believe that these simple items could enhance the experience of boaters and other park users as well.
