This is in response to the Sept. 25 letter written by Mike Johnson regarding Boeing employees crossing the teachers’ picket line in Snohomish. I am one of the volunteers that helped put up the playground at Emerson Elementary in Snohomish.
This man’s statement was my biggest fear – that we would be perceived as crossing the teachers’ picket line. So, before committing to this project we checked with the president of the union representing the Snohomish teachers during this strike. She assured us that completing the playground for the kids was a great thing and that it in no way would be damaging the teachers’ position in their negotiations.
We support the teachers and all unions exercising their right to strike and would never cross another union’s strike line to perform their work – ever! This project was supported by the teachers, parents, and the United Way of Snohomish County so the kids could have a better, safer playground. We were volunteering to do a good thing for the community and I hope the people realize that.
