The sniveling and whining about a basketball team is over the top. I mean, look at the game of basketball for what it is: A bunch of grown men in short pants playing a child’s game. And the game is deadly dull: The players run to the left, toss a ball, then run to the right and do the same thing again. It’s the damnation of Sisyphus. Why anyone would waste time watching a snore basketball is beyond me. But to each his own.
What needs to be remembered in all this Sturm und Drang over basketball is that a basketball team is a privately owned business. As such, I say it should act as a private business. Let the team buy it’s arena all on its own; we don’t need government falling all over itself to co-sign the mortgage. Later, when the team lays an egg, the bank can repossess the arena it and we taxpayers won’t be on the hook.
But if the government absolutely insists on co-signing someone’s mortgage, mine is up for grabs.
