A comment on the “Psychologist dispels myths about middle children” article on page D2 of the Monday Herald:
Dr. Catherine Salmon may be one of the more recent best friends a middle child ever had, however, the myth tha
t needs to be dispelled is that her work brings something new to the literature “for a ‘wide’ audience.”
Her observations regarding middle children are identical to those published by Dr. Kevin Leman in his book “Birth Order” 26 years ago. Dr. Leman’s book goes further to include helpful guidance in rearing first, last, and only children as well. By the way, Dr. Leman has five grown children, and his book — based on an extensive clinical psychology practice as well as his family experiences — is available in a revised and updated 2009 edition.
We can thank Dr. Salmon for confirming Dr. Leman’s work; credit where (and when) credit is due.
