Both candidates are catering to illegals

In response to Ginny Scott’s letter on Aug. 29 (“Real issues are being overlooked”) … actually, both John Kerry and George W. Bush have addressed immigration in their agendas. In fact, both have plans to give illegals amnesty – George W. Bush with his “guestworker” proposal and John Kerry with plans to offer amnesty to illegals within his first 100 days in office. The reason we are hearing nothing about it is because we aren’t the constituents they are trying to reach. But I can almost guarantee that during their campaign swings, they are meeting with advocacy groups and sending press releases directly to the areas with largely illegal populations (farming communities, Latino, Asian and Middle Eastern sub-communities).

Candidates carefully pick and choose which hot-button issues they will address and which they will quietly implement upon their election. This happens to be one issue that the majority of American citizens will not see addressed publicly, because our opposition is clearly one that could keep either candidate from holding (or retaining) office. But it will certainly be one that will affect each and every one of us, since our government has decided it is far better to simply pander to foreign governments and a greed-driven business and industry base, rather than stepping up to the plate and doing the right thing because it is more difficult.

Without intervention on the part of American citizens, we will soon see millions more illegals enjoying Social Security, more free health care, housing and education benefits. And the taxpayers of this country will pick up the tab, often with little prospect of receiving the same benefits. Every citizen should research both candidates’ proposals concerning immigration and then visit www.fairus.org and learn more about illegal immigration and its impact on the United States.
