Enough is enough. As a parent of two Marysville-Pilchuck High School seniors, I am becoming more and more frustrated, disgusted and now angry not only at the teachers, but the school district. At this time I see no light at the end of the tunnel, other than a train coming head-on at our kids.
One would think that with all this education both sides claim to have, at least one of them would know the true meaning of the word compromise and step up to the plate and demand it of each other. I am sure both the teachers and school board members have had at least one course or workshop in the art of negotiation. Or maybe the teachers opted out of that class and took Picketing 101.
As each day ticks by and our kids aren’t in school my confidence in the teachers and the school board members dwindle. They don’t have our kids’ best interests in mind. It’s all about the almighty dollar. Both sides are holding not only the students, but the parents hostage in their dispute.
You can bet your last dime if there were millions of dollars being lost each day due to the strike, someone would take notice, step in and strongly urge and encourage the teachers to get back to work and the district to rethink its budget. If the kids were the top priority, the teachers would elect a group of peers to sit down at the bargining table 24/7, while the rest of them get back to where they belong – the classroom.
Trust me, a teacher carrying a picket sign is not at all becoming. Is that what professionalism has come to? Have both sides forgotten that our kids are our most precious resource and our future? I haven’t.
