For a “12” who finally, fortuitously, began to parse out the game of football just a few short years ago, John Boyle’s columns in The Herald have played a splendidly instructive role in that process. Mr. Boyle always brings a refreshing perspective to the Seahawks’ playing style, achievements, and recently completed contests.
His Saturday piece, “Revisiting a season-changing drive at Carolina,” gloriously expounded upon the final 4?½ minutes of that game on the East Coast earlier this season, in which the Hawks eked out a huge win. In 10 dramatic segments, each demarcated by a citing of the official game time and result of play, Mr. Boyle created “cinema verite” in newsprint. Various Seahawks describe their feelings as the tension grew, and Mr. Boyle provides sparkling insights into the season’s vicissitudes to that point.
Nicely done! I look forward to more of this reporter’s take on football as the ride continues. Go Hawks!
