Contrary to the Thursday letter, “They seem a great waste of money,” I have found the Swift buses to be a well-run, efficient system. The expectation that I never have to wait more then 10 minutes and the convenience of pre-paying at the station certainly makes this a practical alternative to driving.
The writer’s prime concern appears to be that the Swift buses were running below capacity on his midday trial ride. My experience, primarily during the morning and afternoon commute, has been that the route is more heavily used. I would also point out that this is a relatively new route, barely two months old and I have seen ridership increase weekly.
I would also suggest that in a time when financial resources are limited but local population, along with transit ridership, is increasing, the Swift service has many of the benefits of light rail at a miniscule fraction of the cost.
