On Sept. 15 many of us gathered together as a community to remember our fallen firefighters. The terrorist attacks should serve as a wake up call to all of us. The firefighters who stayed in the World Trade Center to save civilians, surely knowing that they were sacrificing their own lives, are true American heroes.
By the same token, we have local heroes who put their lives on the line every day to protect our safety. We must be wary of those who would advocate cutting local funding for public safety. To do so would endanger us and those brave men and women who proudly serve as firefighters, paramedics and police officers. We should dedicate ourselves to protecting those who protect us.
