Regarding the article, “Arkansas district arming more than 20 teachers, staff”: Finally, a common-sense approach to a serious problem! I know I’ll catch flak for this, but it’s time we looked at a solution to an ever growing problem in our nation, school shootings! Some towns in Arkansas have decided that arming their teachers, after extensive training, is the best solution to the reoccurring problem, I, for one, applaud their willingness to step into the breech and be the first to do something proactive to protect their students.
I know that the anti-gun people are going to start screaming their heads off about how dangerous this is going to be. Let’s look at the facts: The teachers have undergone 53 hours of extensive training in the handling of both firearms and violent situations, No one will know which teachers are carrying. Signs will be posted warning of armed guards. With trigger locks, gun safes, pistol-retention holsters (Blackhawks Serpa is an excellent one) it will be virtually impossible for students to gain access to these firearms, if all rules are followed. I believe teachers should be the first responders to these violent situations! I congratulate you, Arkansas, for standing up and saying “No more, not in my town.” I only wish more states would follow your lead and pass legislation to allow teacher’s to start carrying and put these vermin where they belong. In the ground!
