Since the beginning of 2001, Edmonds citizens have requested, reasoned with, encouraged, urged and pleaded with the port commission to take a stand on Brightwater. More specifically, the commissioners were asked to represent the views of their constituency and to oppose the siting of Brightwater in Edmonds. They were cautioned on numerous occasions that Edmonds citizens have long memories and, if they refused to support the citizens they were elected to represent, people who were willing to do so would oppose them in the next election.
I am delighted to know that Washington Tea Party activist Marianne Burkhart will be running for Port District 2 in the election this fall. I have worked closely with her in the Washington Tea Party and with other community groups. Burkhart is experienced in business and government, and is well-prepared to bring fiscal responsibility to the job of port commissioner. She is extremely well-organized and exhibits exceptional skill at communicating and working with diverse groups.
Burkhart will combine her love for the Edmonds waterfront, her creativity, and her considerable management skills to benefit the Port of Edmonds. She will bring a refreshing change to the port commission, too, in that she will listen to the people she represents – and represent their views! I encourage others to vote for Burkhart for District 2 port commissioner.
