Julie Muhlstein’s Friday column, “Reservist has his reservations about war,” as well as the Friday letter, “Government giving us a bad reputation,” appropriately reflect what should be the general public’s feeling about the Iraq war. I cannot understand why it is so much more important to Mr. Bush to save face (which, in my opinion, is never going to happen) than to get out of Iraq. He is escalating the loss of our countrymen, and it will not make a difference.
There is a saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, yet expecting a different result. There is also another (one of my dad’s favorites) about throwing good money after bad. Unfortunately, Bush is bargaining in human lives, not just money.
He might regain some of the respect he has lost if he would do the right thing and get us out of Iraq. Now. The atrocities visited upon other populations around the world need our assistance more. So do a lot of the folks in our own country. I guess there isn’t enough oil anywhere else to make it worth Mr. Bush’s time.
