Bush hasn’t a shred of real evidence

The invasion of Iraq is not necessary, nor justified. The president claims to have mounds of damaging evidence against Iraq but constantly fails to present it. I am obviously not so naive as to believe that I am privy to every piece of information that the government may have on Iraq, but I do believe beyond any doubt that if this evidence existed, the president could not help but announce it to the world. His case is dependent on Iraq’s violation of U.N. Resolution 1441 by development and possession of weapons of mass destruction.

Those opposed to action against Iraq are clamoring about the lack of evidence of this violation, yet, after nearly a year of focusing on Iraq, Bush has not presented the smallest shred of this nature. If it existed, he would undoubtedly stretch it out of proportion and release it as soon as possible. But still, the president expects us to spend upwards of $100 billion (not to mention casualties) in a war with Iraq as we stand on the brink of depression, based solely on his intuition.

And now that Iraq is slowly but surely standing down, and Germany threatening to prevent action taken against Iraq (France, Russia and China are surely soon to follow), Bush continues to poison the minds of Americans with lies about Saddam based on events 10 years ago. Bush is actively destroying the international alliance so that he may have a more easily accessible supply of petroleum.

Action against Iraq will only provoke those who Bush claims to be squelching with its conquest. Iraq is an Islamic nation, attacking will only anger extremists and spark a wave of terrorist attacks. Bush is making enemies everywhere. Our closest allies are questioning his integrity (as well they should be) and growing louder.

If the United States takes action against Iraq, Iraq will be the least of our worries.
