The Aug. 6, 2001 PDB memo is entitled “Bin Laden determined to attack inside United States,” and Condoleezza Rice repeatedly discounts its importance because it is not a “warning” but an “historical” document. Excuse me, did they receive a second message from him canceling out the first? Well, someone ought to tell Ms. Rice that unless they did, the original threat was still operative.
She also points out that at no time were they made known of a “specific time or place” for the attack. What did they need? Did you truly expect Osama bin Laden to hand you that information on a silver platter? You were expected to connect the dots, folks. That was your job, and all of you in the Bush administration let us down. Now be men enough to admit it. Then get us the heck out of the Iraq war, which never should have been, before it becomes the Vietnam those of us who were around then smell coming.
