In response to the Dec. 14 news article, “A pledge of unity from Bush”: George. W. Bush has pledged unity and reconciliation to a nation divided. During his campaign and in the debates he pledged to support local government with less federal control. His actions, however, did not support his pledge to local government. George W. Bush went straight to the U.S. Supreme Court in hopes of overturning the rulings of the Florida Supreme Court. He was successful.
The actions of George W. Bush have not only raised questions about his integrity, much like his father’s “read my lips” pledge, but also raised serious questions about the integrity of the U.S. Supreme Court.
We are independent voters with ties to neither party. However we are disgusted by the actions of George W. Bush and the present Republican Party.
