I am pleased to see President Bush feels our military is second to none and is capable of handling whatever is thrown at them in this dangerous undertaking in Central Asia. I do too. However, it’s a drastic departure from what candidate Bush felt about the very same military just one year ago when he was berating then-President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore for eviscerating the military by under funding programs and weapons systems. The candidate all but ridiculed them for letting this very same powerful military fall woefully into despair and disrepair.
I have seen no new programs, no new funding, no new spending or anything else in the time since then. All I can conclude is there was some wonderful metamorphosis that occurred Jan. 20 when George Bush took office and with it the helm of the ship of state and his role as commander in chief. Either that or what he said last year was garbage. I believe in the great transformation theory, don’t you?
