Regarding the Monday letter, “He couldn’t crew a three-hour tour”: Is anyone else as tired of these ignorant ramblings as I? Richard Reid attempted to blow up a transatlantic airliner on Dec. 22, 2001, less than four months after the 9/11 attacks. Bush was on vacation. And yes, he stayed on vacation until Jan. 7, 2002. (Choking on pretzels, wink, wink.)
While the Obama administration issued a statement through a senior administration official calling the incident an “attempted terrorist attack” on the same day it took place, the Bush White House’s early statements called Reid’s attempt a “law enforcement” issue and came a full six days after the attempt. Bush was at Camp David when Reid made his attempt. Bush saw fit to take a longer vacation and traveled to his faux ranch in Texas for more vacation before finally returning to D.C. on Jan. 7, 2002, which was the first time he addressed the American public on this issue. Where was the writer’s outrage then? Absent.
The letter writer uses his childish rants in an attempt to what? Make people think Bush actually did something about these issues on his watch?
By the way, the entire planet knows it was Bush who sullied the name of the USA and ran up the largest debt in our history … or does the letter writer want us to ignore the facts on those issues as well? And let’s not forget the Senate Republicans who voted down increased security at airports that included technology to detect bombs. Quoting the writer: “Dumb is way too kind a word.”
