Mr. Bush is telling us that this country cannot afford to take care of children’s medical care, but we must continue to spend outrageous amounts on a failed occupation. The heartless President says that Democrats are breaking the budget by taxing and spending on a program that will help poor folks get health care for their children, yet he continues to borrow and spend hundreds of billions on his extremely unpopular endless military adventurism.
It is interesting that the President chooses to deny children health care to control the budget, but did not find it necessary to veto Republican legislation that gave even more money to oil companies.
Democrats have made the very responsible decision to not create any new spending bills without first finding a source to pay for them, as they have done with the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). It’s called “pay as you go,” and as Congress and Bill Clinton proved, this method works to control spending.
Unfortunately the President, who erroneously calls himself a conservative, is not constrained by this kind of conscientious government spending restraint. With no end in sight, he immorally continues to borrow massive amounts of money for the military in an attempt to cover up his diplomatic failures, and he makes absolutely no attempt to actually generate the income needed to pay for his unnecessary and ill-planned fiasco in Iraq.
The facts are clear that the only party breaking the budget for the last few years has been the fiscally and morally irresponsible Republicans.
This citizen/veteran does not understand nor support the perverted logic that the right is using to justify the obscene debt they are building up for our children to pay for today’s security tomorrow at the same time they are denying them health care today.
