Business people are simply the best

The people of Lynnwood really know all about “taking care of business,” or perhaps I should say they know about taking care of customers.

March 22 started out uneventfully. I was heading from Canada to Seattle. I pulled off the highway at the Lynnwood Convention Center exit and stopped at a traffic light. The light turned green, I accelerated and heard clunk as my car remained motionless! My lack of forward motion and another driver’s lack of patience resulted in a minor motor vehicle incident behind me. The driver of the car that was rear-ended asked me to call 911. I wasn’t even off the phone when a Lynnwood police car arrived.

The office dealt with the incident, then came to speak with me. He explained that he’d called for a police car with push bars to move me away from the intersection. His partner arrived, but it turned out my car couldn’t be pushed because of the damage to my transmission. The officer called for a tow truck. During the whole process both officers were patient and polite. My situation inconvenienced a fair number of people but I had no sense of blame or judgement from either of them. This went a long way to helping me stay calm and composed. Welcome to Lynnwood.

R &R Towing arrived to get my car. The driver was professional, kind, courteous, reassuring. Corey, at R &R’s office was an absolute treasure. While I waited to be picked up and unloading a lot of gear from my car, a driver was waiting to get in and wash his truck helped me move things to a safe location. During our conversation he told me about Dave’s Transmission just down the hill and what a great place it is.

Enterprise Car Rental from 21101 Highway 99 sent Helen to pick me up. Another pleasant, helpful person who seems only too happy to help me out. I arrive at Dave’s Transmission and I’m starting to feel like I’ve stumbled on some version of The Twilight Zone. The lot is jam packed with cars, the place is obviously busy but everyone seems relaxed and up-beat. I know my car is going to be in great hands and go off for my weekend.

It’s easy to moan and complain when things go wrong, but it’s really important to let the whole world know when things go right. All things considered … things went more than all right. Lynnwood deserves some sort of award for having such terrific business people!

Thanks, Lynnwood,

I’ll be back!
