Good news that Providence hospital is adding a hospice wing to their Colby Campus, a very needed service. (Sept. 3 article, “First in-patient hospice to open in county.”) This could provide a great opportunity for an upgrade in the hospital area. Maybe the hospital board and the city of Everett could come together and purchase the drug-infested eyesore on 13th street known as the Waits motel. It could be renovated and used as a sort of a Ronald McDonald house for families who have loved ones in hospice and/or long-term hospital stays. This would give families with out-of-town relatives a convenient place to meet and find solace. Perhaps a small chapel could be incorporated. Not only would this give peace to grieving families, but to the neighborhood and police as well. This hovel is the most crime-ridden establishment in the city and the opportunity for turning it into something positive can not be ignored. Providence, are you listening? Mayor Ray Stephanson, how about it?
