It’s been 30 years since we purchased land in Snohomish and at that time, the purchase of land by the state to upgrade U.S. 2 was going on. However, nothing really has changed in those 30 years with U.S. 2 – other than having Monroe make a mess of what was supposed to be land intended for the state highway those many years ago.
The state bypassed Snohomish 25 years ago and the city survived. Who allowed the city of Monroe to build numerous businesses with their ingress/egress being U.S. 2, thus making the journey through Monroe a tedious and cumbersome affair? And we, the taxpayers, are supposed to purchase yet more land to go around it? You gotta be kidding. Once is enough! And the cost to bypass Monroe at this point would be prohibitive, and where would it go? And by the time the state figures this all out, the cost of $1 billion will look like chump change!
