The Events Center used to be open for the homeless last summer, but it is not now. Yesterday, I spoke with a person who works for the Snohomish Health District with the homeless. They are packed together in the few indoor spaces, which are available. I do not want them to catch covid 19, because they are packed together in the few indoor spaces available to them, nor do I want them to die of exposure living outside and sleeping on sidewalks.
When a special places enumerator for the 1990 census, I was sent to count a California couple. They were hosted by the Red Cross in one unit of the Everett Housing Authority south of Hawthorne Elementary School; the couple told me they had had a house, car and all the accouterments of American life but had lost everything.
Those units are sitting empty with no-trespassing signs painted upon the exterior walls; these signs are a blight on the neighboring community by the North Everett Boys & Girls Club. Could we please re-open them for people displaced by this Depression? There must be special paints that are warrantied to cover asbestos, if that is the problem. Please have mercy on the disenfranchised, Everett leaders.
