For those who have been urging the adoption of a health care system like in Canada, a recent report from the Fraser Institute, a Canadian think tank, is quite interesting.
In its report, “Paying More, Getting Less,” they said that the American health care system was “Canada’s safety valve.” The Canadian government spends about $1 billion per year for American medical care, and this does not count the money spent by Canadian private citizens who come to the U.S. for care.
In the report, they give the following information about wait time for certain surgeries in Canada.
Gynecological surgery: 1-3 months.
Cataract removal: 12 to 18 weeks.
Tonsillectomy: 1-7 months.
Neurosurgery: 5-30 weeks.
Ponder those figures.
