Regarding the Friday letter, “New law adds more fuel to fire”: It’s amazing how many people think that by opening up liquor sales to private corporations, we will see skyrocketing death tolls from drunk underage kids. As if there’s anything stopping them from getting liquor now. Most kids have a friend who is 21 or over and is completely willing to buy their friends whatever they want if it means having a good time.
Plus, consider beer and wine that are already sold in grocery stores. If the world was going to end because alcoholic beverages are being sold in Safeway and Costco, it probably would have happened already. It’s as if many people are blaming the private companies for all these accidents and DUIs, before I-1183 even has gone into effect.
