Can’t dismiss teacher’s work

Regarding the letter, “Harmsworth has needed experience”: What? Yet another attack on our teachers! The writer sure didn’t think through his thoughts when recommending not to vote for longtime high school teacher and a person who has great influence in our community, Mike Wilson.

How can a reasonable person believe, after 35 years of teaching diverse classes, (U.S. government, civics courses , team building, etc.), Mike Wilson has not influenced thousands of our current leaders? Those high school students “who know less…” than what Wilson knew, went onto graduate from military academies and other highly praised private and public universities. Knowing this, does this letter writer really believe, as he implies, that no high school or grade school teacher can ever run for office, because they can only work with people “who know less than..” the teacher knows? The writer selectively forgot about how teachers are daily influencing our upcoming leaders, parents and our current leaders in both private and public jobs.

One can only hope, and rightly so, if a Republican teacher was running for office then the letter writer would have praised the teacher for her/his education; abilities to influence others; great time management skills; ability to work with diverse groups; will put the time in to get the job done and then further praise the Republican candidate for her/his dedication to her/his community, state and country.

I expect the Herald will be inundated with support letters from all of Wilson’s successful woman and men he has taught and influenced. Thank you Mike Wilson, and all teachers, for all you have done and are doing!
