As a combat veteran I have been thanked many times for my service. This is always appreciated, but I thank the U.S. Army for giving me the opportunity to serve in a cause bigger than myself. My service put me on a track in life that has led to successes in my career and an enduring love for my wife, family and Country.
At a time of unprecedented national need many see it appropriate to listen to misguided juvenile rants from the left. It has been written that due to the wide spread deployment of National Guard troops, our southern cities were left vulnerable due to lack of personnel, causing more harm in the Gulf Coast disaster. The fact is, according to official deployment and enlistment figures released by the Pentagon, even with heavy rotations into Iraq and Afghanistan, no state has less than 50 percent of its total guard enlistment available at any one time. Most states have 75 percent of their Guard at home, keeping with an agreement with the Department of Defense.
That said, consider this. The left continues, through a network of blame-America-first groups, that include teacher unions and Cindy Sheehan groupies, and according to this fine newspaper, Snohomish county parents, their coordinated, hopeless and negative effort in removing military recruiters from all government schools. Once again they scream, “We need more troops,” but lend no hand in the active support of our nation in gaining these so-called needed troops. You should be ashamed, but alas you will continue to live in a world of 1960s drug-induced delirium.
