I commend The Herald editorial board for its endorsement choices. Regarding the Oct. 29 letter titled, “Haugen endorsement: Poor choice for 10th District,” I would like to respond.
In 1998 the voters passed Referendum 49. The Senate majority swung to the Democrats after six years of Republican rule. Sen. Haugen was appointed Senate Transportation Committee chair and worked mightily to put together a transportation funding plan as authorized. In 1999, I-695 passed and removed the source of funding for R-49. The loss takes time to make up.
To blame Sen. Haugen for our transportation mess is not only inaccurate, but laughable. To say that she has forgotten the people of her district is a gross insult to a great lady and senator.
