If Intitiative 1000 is so worthy of our consideration, then why are doctors required to list the underlying terminal illness as the cause of death, rather than assisted suicide or lethal drug overdose? It seems to me that the ultimate dignity we as human beings are capable of is of being honest with one another. If we cannot be honest in our rhetoric, relationships and paperwork, then I think this points to a “fatal flaw” (no pun intended) in the values and reasoning behind this initiative.
