The Snohomish PUD commissioners are to be highly commended for challenging the state of Washington on the issue of unfair assessment of taxes. Recently, the Snohomish PUD won a $2.4 million refund in disputed state taxes which will be used to defer a rate increase, directly benefiting the consumers and taxpayers.
In 1993, without the knowledge of the utilities, our friendly Democratic legislators were able to pass new state legislation which created an unreasonable tax on money the utilities get from their customers to pay off bondholders. This was just another outrageous attempt to raise taxes without the full knowledge of citizens and another example of governmental greed.
Thanks, Snohomish PUD, for your vigilance.
