Regarding the Friday letter, “Government needs to learn from Gates”: It would be a wonderful thing if, as the writer stated, our military spending could be used for philanthropic deeds such as the Gates Foundation performs.
This will never be possible if for one reason alone: There are billions of dollars in profit to be made by the billionaire corporate friends of the federal government by the constant war-police actions or whatever you would call them, so that is a moot point.
If in some future fantasy world all war would go away that plan would not be worth even looking at unless 100 percent of all government money would be used totally within the borders of the United States and totally toward only legal citizens of the United States.
If and when every legal citizen of the United States of America has all of their problems taken care of – medical, education, housing etc., then and only then should one penny of aid go to any country or person outside of our borders.
Enough is enough, people. Charity begins at home. Go two blocks off the highway in any major city in this country and see the third world conditions that exist right here in our homeland.
