Regarding the Sunday article “Starlight? Too bright”:
I empathize with local astronomy groups seeking dark skies to view stars, moons and planets. Something links humans to the awe, wonder and inspiration that arises from these experiences. It parallels being drawn to oceans. Each brings upon magical senses of solace and peace.
Unfortunately, we need light for safety. Much of the lighting we have is necessary. To live in urban areas there will always be trade-offs.
Having lived and thrived for 20 years on our ranch in Riverside, Wash., my sibling and I took for granted the beauty that surrounded us. As we readied for sleep under the skies, our last view would be a winking moon and shooting stars sprinkling us with good fortune. May future generations always delight and revel in such opportunities.
