I agree with Willie Dickerson’s recent letter to the editor, “Fight poverty by offering tax credits for kids, rent.” We need broad-sweeping legislation that lifts our kids and their families out of poverty through an expanded Child Tax Credit and a Renter’s Tax Credit.
Did you know that at this point, 2.3 million children in the United States are facing homelessness each year? I find that number to be shocking. These children are the future of our country. They will grow up to be our military, police, and workers who make our country run.
If they are homeless, how can they learn and grow up to be strong and able to defend and run our country? Regardless of their political party, I call on all of our Congress to ensure the health and welfare of all its citizens, not just the wealthiest ones, by passing legislation such as an expanded Child Tax Credit and Renter’s Tax Credit.
