Last week a real news story broke, and The Herald once again avoided it.
On Tuesday you printed an Associated Press story on the nuclear summit. With this article you showed us a picture of Obama and the president of China, both beaming from ear to ear. The story went on to say that both men “sought agreement on potential sanctions to discourage Iran’s efforts to come up with its own nuclear weapon.”
Well, the most popular sanction considered by most nations is the withholding of refined gasoline.
Guess what. The next day Reuters (not The Herald) reported that China has sold two gasoline cargoes (600,000 barrels) to Iran for delivery this month! And, China had booked another vessel (on Tuesday, the day after that picture was taken) to load another 250,000 barrels for shipment to “discharge in the Gulf” — most likely for Iran.
The story you still have a chance to print is that the Chinese president was probably laughing to himself in the picture you printed.
