Thank you to M.L. Dehm for the informative article on Mars Hill Church converting the old Everett Armory into a church building. It reminded me of one of the most brilliant books I’ve ever read, “The Christian in Complete Armor” by Puritan William Gurnall. Having worked for a few years myself in downtown Everett on nearby Broadway and Pacific, I’m confident that the presence of Ryan Williams and company will provide significant visible spiritual light in an area that can sometimes be a dark place.
I loved the quote by Pastor Williams: “This building was built in 1921 and, in 1921, God knew this would be a church in 2013.” It was similar to me as the story of Voltaire, who was known for uttering, “God is dead! God is dead!” in his lifetime. After his death, his house ironically became a distribution center for Bibles. Bottom line: the temporal ways of man always end up serving the eternal ways of God, whether they’re intended by man that way or not. God’s purposes cannot be thwarted. Again, thanks for the great article!
