Recently I read about the final performance of Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus; certainly the end of an era! I’m sure the article brought back many happy memories, but for me, it was so much more.
Tears filled my eyes as I remembered being raised, lovingly by The Salvation Army after being found homeless and abused. Being overweight, and dressed poorly, the kids I went to school with were brutal, and many days, I left in tears. Seeing my pain, The Salvation Army took my entire class to the circus, and as we sat in the front row, watching that wonderful show, I went from being the brunt of jokes, to the class hero!
The next time you see a Salvation Army kettle, please think about the miracle in a child’s life; I am just one of them.
