I was a proponent of building a UW campus at the Lake Stevens site. I can accept that it wasn’t recommended. But between the sniping from the Marysville supporters and the blatant underhanded dealings of Ed Hansen, a major supporter of the Everett Station site, I’ve become thoroughly disillusioned and disgusted with the whole process.
We get told “come together and unite around a single site” by the governor. In this day and age, in this climate, it just isn’t going to happen. As much as I would like logical arguments to win the day, in the end it will probably be big money contributions into the coffers of politicians like Hans Dunshee and Mary Margaret Haugen that will decide this. That just isn’t right.
I say end this nonsense now and give up the idea of UW North ever happening. Just admit we live in a series of insular, narrow-minded communities that can’t get anything done unless somebody uses money politics to force the issue. We need to accept that and move on.
