Our Everett arena is nearly complete! The port has plans to develop our north marina with retail, condos, businesses and recreation. We anticipate landing the Boeing 7E7. We love the Navy in our community. And the best news of all, Everett will not be home to the Department of Defense’s SBX. After being deeply involved in making sure the Department of Defense heard us loud and clear about the inappropriateness of placing it here, it was a huge relief to know that we are no longer on the list. It also made me realize that there are a whole bunch of people who care deeply about our community and will fight to the end to preserve our lifestyle.
Without some key people, this decision might have gone a different way. Michelle Trautman spent nearly every waking hour asking questions, questioning officials, lining up presentations, authoring rebuttals to the environmental impact statements. Mary Jane Anderson co-chaired the Concerned Citizens Against the SBX, Dr. Elizabeth Marshall and Tim Reisenauer investigated, questioned, challenged and authored some excellent work on reasons why our city should not be selected.
Ray Stephanson gave us insight to the political process that we needed to follow to go through proper channels with our rebuttals. These are only a few of the many, many people who cared enough to get involved. I hope that everyone who worked so tirelessly with us will stay forever connected in a way that will continue to benefit our community.
