It seems that any and all things can now be considered the fault of Aaron Reardon. Judges and prosecutors should know better. County Executive Reardon cannot raise revenue via new or raised taxes. It addition, he is required to submit a balanced budget. My 16 years as a state senator taught me that it is unfortunate that people on the legal side of law enforcement always believe they are not only immune to any budget cut but should always receive an increased budget.
I believe that they attack Reardon because they do not want to offend County Council members, knowing that only they can actually raise revenue.
Is law enforcement important? Of course it is. Yet voters always seem to try to tie the hands of elected officials, and all too often succeed.
Supermajorities here in Washington and in the U.S. Senate can, and I fear will, lead this country to near ruin. If you feel, as I do, that law enforcement is very important, let your County Council members know. They, and only they, can pass or request that we pass a revenue increase which will, just maybe, satisfy the judges and Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
