This letter concerns the candidacy of Hans Dunshee for state representative in the 44th District. He notes in his literature and his campaign signs that he wants to be “re-elected” to office. This is a little dishonest, as he has never run in the 44th District before. In fact, if one looks closely at his campaign signs, there is a “44” written by hand, taped over “39th” – his old district. Lately, his people haven’t even done that, leaving it just as it was. Of course, this wasn’t entirely in his hands – he was redistricted out of the 39th.
Which brings us to another subject – name familiarity. As readers of The Herald know by now, Dunshee was the leader in the effort to bring down the Jefferson Davis Marker near Blaine and rename Highway 99. This feel-good, do-nothing, politically correct measure was wisely shot down in the state senate, but it got what Dunshee wanted – media attention. In fact, articles on this issue ended up on The Herald’s front page at least four times.
I hope citizens in the 44th District will wise up to Dunshee’s tactics and realize we need someone to represent us who will focus on real issues, not someone who wants to just go after his own liberal, PC agenda.
