For two-and-a-half months the city of Sultan was dragged through the mud. For two- and-a-half months our mayor offered no explanation to us. For two-and-a-half months Sultan was in the headlines of several newspapers, which was an embarrassment to the people who live here. We thought it was all behind us when our police Chief Fred Walser came back to do his job – the one he was paid to do for the last two-and-a-half months.
We decided to welcome him back with a little party. A party we did not get “clearance” for, said our mayor. A party that was “ridiculous,” said our mayor. A party that was “disruptive,” said our mayor. A party that was “childish,” said our mayor. A party the mayor did not even attend.
For over two-and-a-half years now our mayor as not gotten “clearance,” his leadership is “ridiculous,” his is actions or inactions have been “disruptive” to our city. Personally, I have never seen or heard of a more “childish” form of leadership in all my life.
It is time for a professional city manager in this city. It is time for the people of Sultan to look to future. We do not need a mayor who hides behind a lawyer. We need a leader who recognizes what the people want and can be up-front and honest, with an open-door policy. A mayor who will follow through on the way the council votes. A mayor who can look you in the eye and tell you the truth. We deserve better than what we have.
