I am a professional firefighter who has been providing emergency service to the citizens of Mountlake Terrace and Brier for more than 20 years. I grew up in Mountlake Terrace and have owned a home in Brier since 1985. My family and many of my friends live and work in the area that we protect. I take a personal responsibility in the performance of my duties.
I would like to take the opportunity to commend Mayor Pat Cordova, city council members Jamie Gravelle, A.J. Housler, Laura Sonmore and Jerry Smith, and especially City Manager Connie Fessler for not only creating a master plan for city services, but having the resolve to stick to that plan.
When Initiative 695 was passed, our fire department was faced with a dire crisis in the form of a significant reduction in services. Through the strong leadership of the city manager and the forward-thinking group of council members, our fire department is currently thriving. This has been in the form of a partnership with Fire District 1. The fruit of this effort has been reduced cost and increased service, literally in the form of more lives saved.
Be proud of what you have done and be confident in the tasks you face. As I tell my family and friends, this city manager and the majority council leadership has earned my utmost respect through their professionalism and ability to see clearly through adversity. I am confident they have the public’s best interest in mind and would like to offer my reassurance and backing in this mission.
In the near future, the decision of full consolidation must be made. I would invite right-minded citizens to come to the public hearings to become informed, offer support to the process and assist in providing for greater public good.
