The Snohomish City Council made the right call to contract out our police department. We will benefit in three ways: no new tax, lower the operating budget, better protection. Our own police wanted this to happen. They can now work for the county, with a higher pay scale.
I’ve read and heard that our town’s identity will somehow be lost by not having our own police department. Our police do not put Snohomish on the map. People don’t come to Snohomish to view the members of our force. If I need the help from either the Snohomish police or the county, I’ll go with the county. That department is better trained, has more education, is paid better and has better equipment. But understand, crime will still happen with or without the Snohomish police or the Sheriff’s Office.
Crime will continue, but now we will have the aid of a better police force and at the same time, we can all save money for a future tax increase for whatever.
