I encourage the voters of the Granite Falls School District to vote in support of the bond to build a new high school.
I began teaching in the Granite Falls School District in 1970. At the time, we had an elementary building and a high school that housed grades 7-12. There were approximately two classrooms per grade in the elementary, but it was obvious that we would soon begin to have three classrooms for some grades. The current high school was built in the mid 70’s to house this growing need.
By the time I retired in 2000, we had eight or nine classrooms per primary grade, two elementary buildings, a middle school about to be expanded, but the same high school. Rooms have been added to the building and that has helped a lot, but there is no denying the need. The student population has almost doubled in the last 10 years and all of the current buildings are full. The recently expanded middle school now has two portables.
By building a new high school, the current one will become the middle school, thereby creating a third elementary school. The district has carefully considered the most efficient use of our taxpayer dollars with this plan. Supporting this bond will provide much needed classroom space for all student ages.
