Clinton supporters won’t fall for gimmick

For many months, John McCain and his followers have been trying to scare us about Barack Obama’s so-called lack of experience and questionable judgment. And let’s not forget all the disgusting and untrue attacks they’ve made on his patriotism, religion and character.

The first important and crucial decision that a presidential candidate makes is picking a running mate. It’s an indication of the wisdom and judgment of our next president. It should be made for the best interest of the country, not for some gimmick to win votes. The vice president is truly “only a heartbeat away from the presidency,” so it’s a vital decision.

McCain selected an obscure, surprise candidate with limited national and world experience, Sarah Palin. Obama picked Joe Biden, a qualified, experienced person who is well respected by both parties. Think carefully about which candidate made the wise and judicious decision here.

I am one of the many female supporters of Hillary Clinton. I find it offensive that the McCain campaign dangles a woman in front of us in hopes that we’ll flip over to his side. We aren’t that shallow! The woman has to be more tested, open-minded and qualified than the woman from Alaska.

Obama and Biden do not scare me. What’s frightening is the possibility of a 72-year-old, well-vetted “maverick” as president and another questionable “maverick” as our vice president. We need reliable, steady, thoughtful and trusted leaders instead of self-described “mavericks.”
