Jim Lambright will be inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame today and it is time to celebrate.
It is not time to chastise impatient alumni, or the California athletic director who wreaked havoc with Husky sports. It is only time to say “thank you” for Coach Lambright’s years of service and total allegiance to the University of Washington.
If there is one thing we can learn from Jim Lambright, it is not to quit. No matter what the degree of pain, be it physical or emotional, you must not lose confidence and give up.
Did you know he spent countless hours with the UW School of Medicine when he was dismissed from the football program? Do you know of Jim’s foundation and contributions to find a cure for Neiman Pick type C, the children’s version of Alzheimer’s? The research Jim and Lynne established could lead to a solution for many of our family illnesses. Ailments such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS and other closely related lipid storage diseases could benefit from the six-figure donations arranged by the Lambrights’ efforts.
As Don James deserves and retains the name of “Dog Father,” Jim Lambright should become Mr. Purple and Gold. It only takes a casual observer to understand he bleeds these colors. Oct. 27 is the day Jim Lambright finally takes his place in the Husky Hall of Fame. This place has been saved for Jim for a very long time. Three cheers to whoever realized there was an important face missing from these walls and rectified it. He demonstrates all that is and was good about Husky football.
